Sense of Loss: sedoka

How does this thing work,
living without much thinking
outside your own box?

What a little world
that makes the whole of your life,
with just your own mess.

How does that make sense,
with so much beauty outside,
just past your front door?

What a sad living
you make, trapped with just yourself
and no sense of loss.

The Moment’s Warmth: katauta

Why do we seek something beyond?
The morning sun comes up without our permission,
and warms us in spite of ourselves.

Why do we want to live forever?
The eye of the needle doesn’t count
the lengths of thread that pass through it.

Why do we want an answer?
The stars fade as the sky brightens,
their shining simply hidden by a closer light.

Why do we refuse the answer?
While the fire is burning, it is neither wood nor ash;
enjoy the moment’s warmth.

Time Travel: katauta

What is this thing life?
Even stuck still in amber
the passage of time remains.

What use is living?
Even the largest river
remembers the breeze touching.

What is this thing life?
Keeping track of each minute
wastes yet another minute.
