A Little While

When somebody tells you they’ll make it worth your while, which “while” do they mean?

Is that like a done-while-you-wait kinda while or is it a once in a while, a while ago, or a while you wasn’t looking?

Chances are it’s not a just a chance less lucrative but certainly less morally ambivalent thing you might have been doing “while” you were doing whatever they asked you to do.

But who has time for all that?

The Moving Finger

If all you’re worried about is the finger
you will never see the moon.
I can’t say it or write it or play it.
Not to you at you thru you or for you.

What’s the point of all of that?
The pointing is at the moon.
Don’t spend so much time at the mirror.
Just look up. It’s OK to blink.

Don’t let anyone give you the finger.
Well not just anyone.
Sometimes we all need a little encouragement.

So Much Longer

Seems like every day
I’m finding less reasons to stay
I don’t mean here, somewhere with you,
elsewhere, around, or above ground
but something else still keeps me here.
Maybe it’s fear, or stubborn courage;
maybe deep down, I’m just lazy.
Wouldn’t that be almost crazy?
Doesn’t matter either way.
Look, just now passed another day,
and the world just kept on spinning,
losers losing, winners winning.

Not a blade of grass out of place.
Almost like it was a movie, huh?

Under the Influencers

Don’t say too much. Let’s keep it short. One statement each and one retort.
The truth is, even that takes time. So keep it simple and sublime.
Besides, it’s not that musical. Despite its pitches and its silence,
its martial beat may incite violence.

We wouldn’t want that. Some excuse
is all it takes to sell the ruse
that our great way is under fire
and those who say we lie are liars,
part of the conspiracy
to take from you and give to me.

Don’t say too much. There’s not much point. They won’t change how they run this joint.
Besides, you aren’t a volunteer; you’ve got a mortgage and career
spent trying to become like them.
There’s still no point. Why not admit it’s pretend?

You wouldn’t want that. What authority
you’d like to have would evaporate.

Beware of being the last influencer.

The Burning Spear

The distance is nearer when seen through the mirror. The miles are deceptively small. It’s almost as if, once you’re over that cliff, that perception depends on the fall. Or maybe not that much at all.

When you’re looking eyes front, the edges are more blunt. You start to see things in advance. It’s almost but not choreography, you either land or you don’t. That’s the dance.

It’s closer, in that it might happen. The past is much further beyond. Besides, there’s enough right at hand to distract you; no need to think, yet, past this pond.

Don’t blink. If you do, it’s all over. It has to begin all again. There’s no time like the present for that though. You need to go now.

Go Outside

Whatever you’re doing right now, wherever you are, no matter what time it is or who’s watching; stop whatever it is that is, stop that and go outside.

Not just out the door, or down the hall or ‘round the corner, Outside.

Beyond that definition of who and where you are clouds your vision and you can’t tell your arse from your elbow.

I mean, Go Outside. For a little while. Everything will get better. Not because you do or don’t want it to. In a while. For a while. Just like everybody else’s.

That certain something

There’s always been a certain element, usually vocal, that’s wanted to roll up the Constitution and swat anyone that’s doesn’t look and think like them on the head with it.

Just to feel superior. Our government was intended to keep that kind of bullshit at bay, for the greater good of everyone whether they looked like you or not.

The point was to keep those assholes out of “public” self service.

So what the fuck happened?

That really hasn’t worked out.
