A Victory Sublime: carol (carole)

To our victory sublime,
let the bells begin to chime!

In the fields where battles rage
loose our wild might from its cage;
sweep the tyrants from the stage!
Let the bells begin to chime!

With a righteous cry and hue
let us give this scourge its due.
Then our struggle will be through;
to our victory sublime!

Let the rotten timbers fall,
knock down that restraining wall!
Heed the freedom fighters’ call:
let the bells begin to chime!

In the place of greed and hate
we will share in this new fate.
let the whole world celebrate:
to our victory sublime!

Where once evil sought to rule,
let us teach from a new school.
No more will we play the fool;
let the bells begin to chime!

Let the struggle’s record show
the end of the status quo.
What comes next? We do not know.
To our victory sublime!

Who will lead us now, for good?
Who decides who can, or could?
Will we vote now, as we should?
Let the bells begin to chime.

What direction will we go?
Who do we trust ought to know?
We have no idea, so
to our victory sublime!

To our victory sublime!
Let the bells begin to chime!

The World is Full of Magic: carole

Though some now say it comes to nil
The world is full of magic still

The end is nigh, soothsayers scry,
and from their parapets do cry
“Beware the evil that draws nigh!” –
though some now say it comes to nil.

The world is cracked and folding in
upon itself, and in the din
one barely hears the voice within:
the world is full of magic still!

But those who stand, in spite of fear
of loss of life and that held dear
sing out their songs, so loud and clear,
though some now say it comes to nil.

Excelsior! and “Forward, Ho!”
Against the grain, and tides, we go,
what weapons work, we cannot know;
the world is full of magic still

At some near point along the path
the bards may scribe our epitaph;
so fill the world up with our laugh,
though some may say it comes to nil

Reality is what we make;
there is no permanent mistake.
It matters not which path we take,
the world is full of magic still

Though some now say it comes to nil
The world is full of magic still

Midwinter’s Tale: a carol (or carole)

Joyous tidings! Dance and sing!
Born, the sun, and with it, Spring!

Birth and rebirth, life’s delight:
in dark winter’s longest night
comes the spark of new year’s light.
Joyous tidings! Dance and sing!

Life’s bright flame shines through the cold,
now as in the days of old;
watch with joy as life unfolds.
Born, the sun, and with it, Spring!

Cast off hiberating ways
in these short and chill-filled days;
let us sing the warm sun’s praise!
Joyous tidings! Dance and sing!

From the hearth-fire grows the spark
to illuminate the dark;
a new calendar to mark.
Born, the sun, and with it, Spring!

As the old year finds its end,
time’s wheel comes around again;
enters stranger, leaves as friend.
Joyous tidings! Dance and sing!

Joyous tidings! Dance and sing!
Born, the sun, and with it, Spring!

The Sacred in All Things: a carole or carol

Let all the world rejoice and sing
to see the sacred in all things!

The universe in varied forms
and diverse structures sets the norms:
with every death, life is reborn.
Let all the world rejoice and sing!

Each flower blooms and goes to seed;
to exist, each finds what it needs
and understanding this, proceeds
to see the sacred in all things!

There is no rank or hierarch;
within each thing glows the same spark,
composed of light and also dark.
Let all the world rejoice and sing!

Each moment fades with no reverse,
affecting the wide universe,
and in shared energy immersed
to see the sacred in all things!

Let all the world rejoice and sing
to see the sacred in all things!
